Farming over 400 acres of fresh market vegetables in the rich roils of Eden Valley, New York.

We incorporate the latest in growing, harvesting and post-harvest cooling methods to maximize the quality, freshness and safety of our produce. Additionally, we regularly work with university researchers, seed breeders and crop consultants to select farming practices that are best suited for our fields. From July to October, we offer over a dozen fresh vegetables, available in different grades and pack styles.

Food Safety

At Kreher Family Farms, Food Safety Culture is our highest priority.

Food safety Culture means we work as a team to share food safety values and practices. We work together to lead by example and embody our food safety policies of monitoring, cleaning and sanitation. The shared embodiment of a food safety mindset becomes second nature and a part of our routines.

Our farm takes pride in working to grow quality, safe & fresh produce that meets best practice standards. We take care in how our vegetables are harvested, handled, packed and shipped. We are continuously striving to adapt and make proactive changes to improve our Food Safety Standards each year.

We only achieve success

when we work as a team.

Kreher Farms completes annual third-party audits, water testing and on-going internal audits. We are PrimusGFS Audit Certified. PrimusGFS is a Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) recognized audit certification program that includes Food Safety Management Systems (FSMS), Good Agricultural Practices (GAP’s), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP).

Sustainability

As stewards of our land for over 125 years,

it is our goal to help future generations understand the importance of agricultural and environmental responsibility, just as our ancestors have done for us.

Therefore, Kreher Family Farms. uses sustainability practices such as:

  • Planting cover crops to improve soil organic matter and prevent erosion

  • Using plastic mulches and drip irrigation to reduce water use and evaporation

  • Using GPS and precision farming equipment to place fertilizers exactly where our plants need them, thus reducing nutrient leaching into our water systems

  • Implementing new ways to reduce the amount of pesticides used on our crops

Integrated Pest Management (IPM)

We utilize Integrated Pest Management (IPM) to monitor the presence of harmful pests and diseases in our fields.

The IPM program allows for early detection and the use of acceptable thresholds to minimize the use of agricultural pesticides. In recent years, Kreher Family Farms has been implementing the use of beneficial insects on our farm such as ladybugs.

These “good bugs” prey on insect pests that cause damage to our vegetable crops, thus significantly reducing the need for chemical sprays.
